Who do you keep company with? Do any among your number enflame you to seek after God all the more? Let’s look at Philip’s conversion. Just like Andrew, when Philip met the Son of God he sought to bring others to meet Him.
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” – John 1:43-45, ESV
It is no coincidence that these men knew each other. And it is no coincidence that all of them chose to follow Jesus. Andrew’s words to Simon, called Peter, was that they had found the Messiah. Philip’s words to Nathanael is that they had found the one written about by the prophets of Holy Scripture.
All of them were seeking Messiah. All of them knew the others were, too. All of them were ready to know God in a powerful and personal way. And when one found Jesus, the promised One, they in turn brought the others. They fed off each other. They were joined in their desire to know God better and they helped each other in that desire.
Who among your circle is your Andrew or Philip? Who spurs you on to greater faith? Who fires up your desire to be closer to God? Who is walking that journey with you? If you don’t have a good answer, remember, we aren’t to walk this Christian life alone. We all need Andrews and Philips in our lives. And we are called to be them in the lives of other believers.
